The gifted child is one who is developmentally advanced in one or more areas, and is therefore in need of differentiated programming in order to develop at his or her accelerated pace.
Gib Gate’s Gifted Education Programme supports students who show exceptional talent. Executive staff and parents collaborate to identify possible candidates for the programme. Our specialist teachers hold post-graduate qualifications in Gifted Education, so that students have the support they need to excel.
The range of extension opportunities varies for different ability types and skill level. This includes our ‘Grasshopper Programme’ which moves students between grade-levels so they can learn at an accelerated pace.
Other opportunities for gifted students include:
- Maths Camp
- Mathematics Challenge
- Maths Olympiad
- da Vinci Decathlon
- Tournament of Minds
- Public speaking
- Cluster grouping
- Student mentoring
- ICAS academic competitions
- NSW universities advanced courses
Additional learning needs
Gib Gate offers an extensive programme for additional learning needs as some students require a different level of interaction with their educators. As needs change over time, teachers adjust the learning plans to ensure that educational progress continues.
Our Personalised Learning Plan teacher is specifically trained to support academic and social development, engaging directly with students in small groups and through one-on-one sessions.
Teachers at Gib Gate are fully trained to deliver MULTILIT programmes developed at Macquarie University’s Special Education Centre (MUSEC) – including PreLit, InitiaLit, MiniLit, MultiLit, MacqLit and Spell-It. All teachers have also completed specialist training in Gifted and Talented education, most through the UNSW Gateways accreditation.
