Preschool

At our Preschool, we are committed to giving young children the very best start in life. Activities and experiences cater to each student’s developmental level and provide an understanding of success. This inspires them to learn more while also building their confidence.

Frensham Junior School is recognised within the industry for its dedication to early childhood development and holds accreditations from the Australian Children’s Education & Care Quality Authority (ACECQA) and the Department of Education NSW Early Childhood Directorate. Frensham Junior School receives funding for Preschool students under the Directorate’s Start Strong programme.

Play – both inside and outside – is a key part of learning in the Pre-Kindergarten (Pre-K) programme. By following the Early Years Learning Framework and Reggio Emilia philosophy, teaching is based on the needs and interests of each child.

Individual learning paths are achieved by:

  • programming and planning accordingly;
  • showing respect for cultural diversity;
  • delivering a non-sexist, non-biased approach to learning;
  • encouraging independence, co-operation, initiative, confidence and self-esteem;
  • getting parents involved, as we recognise them as the child’s main influence.

A child’s ability to concentrate and learn is linked to the environment around them. So, to engage their natural curiosity of the world, our Preschool is designed with light-filled indoor spaces and an inspiring outdoor classroom.

Children, staff and parents collaborate on investigations based on the student’s interests. This learning community creates a supportive space to reinforce the importance of learning as a part of life.

Imaginative play allows the children to freely explore artistic subjects including visual art, drama, music and movement. This is where the children can let their creativity dictate their experience and discover new forms of expression.

Pre-Kindergarten children have the chance to participate in specialist lessons in Library, Music, Physical Education, an annual Junior Musical and other School events. These extra-curricular experiences help to broaden the child’s experiences and collectively, the diversity within the programme gives our Preschool children the best possible start in their young lives.
