- Compares human use of an environmental area with use in another area of the world.
- Uses tools to locate and investigate environments
- Locates and describes patterns of human involvement in environmental areas
- Conducts research of how humans use rainforests to meet their needs and the environmental impact of this. Compare various countries.
GROUP RESEARCH TASK: Weeks 3, 4, 5 & 6
http://www.rainforestweb.org/ (Use this site to begin the RAINFOREST PROJECT) Focus regions for research will be: South America, Africa, Asia, North and Central America, Oceania, Indonesia, Brazil and Canada
TASK: Become an expert on a particular rainforest region in the world. In groups of 3, conduct research on the rainforest region given to you. Cover the following areas as listed below. Present your information in a power point presentation using approximately 10 – 12 slides. Your presentation should be eye catching and colourful. Use bullet points to present facts. Do not copy and paste. A flow diagram should be drawn up first which includes details of notes taken from the Internet which will then be typed up onto slides. You will be required to present your powerpoint as an oral presentation, using palm cards.
Focus areas will include:
- The location of this rainforest. (Tuning in to Global Rainforests)
- The beauty of this rainforest – Biodiversity (Fauna & flora)
- The importance of this rainforest.
- Problems of man’s exploitation and destruction of this rainforest? (Why are forests being destroyed?
- What is being done to protect this rainforest?
- How can we help to protect rainforests? (Taking Action)
