About Gib Gate

A co-educational day school from Preschool to Year 6, with casual and full boarding at Frensham for girls from Year 4.

Located in the Southern Highlands of NSW, Winifred West Schools comprises Gib Gate, a co-educational preschool and primary school, Frensham, an independent secondary boarding and day school for girls, and Sturt, a centre of excellence for studio-based craft and computer-aided design.

Gib Gate fosters a caring and supportive environment where every student is encouraged to achieve to the best of their ability, to become both a team worker and an independent learner, to develop a strong sense of personal worth and belonging and to develop a desire to know, to learn and to understand.

Gib Gate has a Pre-School programme that covers all areas of a child's development: in pre-academic, social, emotional, creative and physical areas.

The Curriculum is organised in Stages:

Early Stage 1 is the programme undertaken by the typical Kindergarten child. Stage 1 is the programme undertaken by typical Years 1 and 2 children.

Stage 2 is the programme undertaken by typical Years 3 and 4 children.

Stage 3 is the programme undertaken by typical Years 5 and 6 children.

Organising the curriculum in this way allows us to provide what is most appropriate for each child at any given time and also to provide units of study that may span over two years or be offered in alternate years. Learning outcomes that are addressed are designed for planning for the varying rates of child development and interests over a two year period.

Our curriculum is divided into six broad Key Learning Areas that are used across New South Wales generally.

These six KLA are:
• English
• Mathematics
• Science and Technology
• Human Society and Its Environment; including languages
• Creative and Practical Arts (Visual Arts, Music and Drama)

• Personal Development/Health and Physical Education
